Chaos as players take flight

By Nathan Salt

BRENTFORD’S match with Wolves was thrown into chaos when a drone flying over the stadium caused a 19-minute delay.

Referee Peter Bankes became concerned after 31 minutes when he noticed the unauthorised flying object hovering above the centre circle. As per Premier League rules, both teams left the pitch until the drone, deemed a deemed a safety risk, was cleared from the area.

Drone owners have previously attempted to film live footage from matches, forcing the league to put rules in place to reduce the risk of injuring fans should the device lose control. Brentford and Wolves players and fans were left in the dark during the delay as the drone buzzed for a short while before a police helicopter arrived to scare it off.

Fans on social media saw the funny side though, with one dubbing it ‘Ivan Droney’ in homage to Brentford striker Toney.
