Moyes is forward thinking

DAVID MOYES hopes to end a twoyear search for a striker in the final week of the transfer window after their Champions League hopes received a blow with a late defeat at Manchester United.

Hammers owner David Sullivan is tasked with trying to bring in competition for Michail Antonio with the team’s excellent season suffering a blip before the upcoming international break with consecutive losses.

‘In a perfect world we would get someone but we have been trying for two years to add another striker,’ revealed Moyes.

‘We’ve put in a few offers for players but couldn’t get them, or they were too expensive. It’s trying to get players who can help us. We will continue to keep trying, we have a week or so to so, we will keep looking.

With West Ham riding high in the league and still involved in the Europa League, Moyes is confident targets would like to join a side featuring talented, team-orientated players such as Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice.

‘I see it as a great opportunity to join West Ham. It’s a club doing well and hopefully on the up. We are a good team to watch, I see people wanting to come to West Ham and believe we could make one or two big signings but I can’t promise. Everyone knows what we need.’

The Hammers go into the break reflecting on an excellent season so far but Moyes admits the manner of defeat at Old Trafford — losing to an injury-time winner from Marcus Rashford — is sore.

‘I don’t go into games to roll over and lose. I’m enjoying the job and we have definitely moved up a level or two in the last year but this result is hard to take.’
