WEATHER WATCH

John Kettley

We are fast approaching the start of the Atlantic hurricane season with speculation about its severity due to this year seeing the coolest May sea temperatures in the equatorial Pacific in 22 years. This can make it easier for storms to develop in the Caribbean. The suggestion is we will see another fairly active hurricane season with some tracking across the Atlantic as weakening storms in the late summer.

Our weather has been increasingly turbulent in the past week. Central Scotland has seen more cloud than normal with Glasgow recording barely 40 hours of sunshine by the weekend. Contrast that with 115 hours of sunshine across parts of Eastern England but that is still well below expectations as the days lengthen.
