Liz Kershaw (right) hosts the first in a two-part show focusing on singles that have achieved platinum status in the UK – ie, they’ve sold a million copies. She tells the stories behind each track via interviews with their creators culled from the extensive BBC archive.

The Documentary (BBC World Service, 12 midday & 3am) reveals how the Queen has dealt with often complex global issues throughout her reign, many of which have been resolved in secret behind closed doors.

OperaOn3 (Radio 3, 6.30pm) pays tribute to composer Harrison Birtwistle, who died last month, by replaying a 2014 production of his opera Gawain.
