Bitter pill GPs must swallow

I read with dismay that patients have made 4.7million trips to A&E in the past year because they couldn’t see their GPs. GPs should tell patients that they are open for face-to-face appointments wherever possible. While remote appointments seem to be convenient for some, they aren’t meeting everyone’s needs.

Healthcare has changed so much since I remember it pre-NHS. Then, GPs saw us out of hours and without appointments, provided minor treatments and delivered babies, with local, cottage, maternity, isolation and convalescence hospitals meeting many of our needs. General hospitals were the last, not first, port of call.
