JK Rowling is told: You’re next after Rushdie
By Natasha Livingstone
JK ROWLING has received a sickening death threat from a religious extremist who praised Sir Salman Rushdie’s attacker as ‘a revolutionary Shia fighter’.
The British author, below, was told ‘you are next’ in a chilling tweet posted early yesterday morning after news broke of the horrific attack on Sir Salman in New York on Friday.
Last night he was on a ventilator after being stabbed multiple times.
Rowling described the assault as ‘horrifying news’ and tweeted: ‘Feeling very sick right now. Let him be OK.’
In response, a self-described political activist from Pakistan, Meer Asif Aziz, tweeted: ‘Don’t worry you are next.’
Twitter did not remove Aziz’s threat against Rowling for 13 hours, causing the Harry Potter author to publicly ask the online platform for support yesterday afternoon.
The tweet was deleted at about 4pm yesterday and Aziz’s profile was removed an hour later.
Aziz also tweeted that Rushdie’s alleged attacker Hadi Mata was a ‘revolutionary Shia fighter’ who ‘followed the fatwa’.
