State Of Happiness

BBC4, 9pm & 9.45pm

Known as Lykkeland in its native Norway, this wonderful, multi-award-winning drama kept viewers gripped when the first series aired last year.

The story began in the summer of 1969 and took place in the small coastal town of Stavanger, where the largest sub-sea oil basin in history had been found, transforming the lives and the fortunes of the local residents overnight.

However, as is often the case, what started as good fortune soon turned bad; the eightpart second series, which covers the years 1977-1980, focuses on an environmental disaster and the devastating collapse of a rig, which force everyone to refocus their lives while reconsidering their futures.

Expect more tension, rows and battles along the way with strong performances from Peep Show’s Bart Edwards and Anne Regine Ellingsaeter (right).
