Outrage at claims MP called Boris ‘murderer’

By Claire Ellicott and Brendan Carlin

A LABOUR frontbencher is said to have branded Boris Johnson a ‘murderer’ over his handling of the pandemic in an echo of the Tory ‘scum’ row.

Rosena Allin-Khan, a Shadow Health Minister, allegedly made the shocking claim earlier this year in reference to the former Prime Minister’s Covid policies.

It follows the uproar caused by Labour’s Deputy Leader Angela Rayner calling Conservatives ‘scum’ at last year’s Labour Party conference. She later apologised. Ms Allin-Khan is believed to have made the controversial comments in a Shadow Cabinet meeting around March. One witness claimed that she said: ‘Boris Johnson is personally responsible for murdering tens of thousands of people,’

They described her remarks as ‘extreme’ and ‘insane’, adding: ‘People were looking at each other when she said it.

Some of us thought she was saying it so that it was leaked to the Left as part of her ambitions to be party leader.’

Ms Allin-Khan, MP for Tooting, has repeatedly been accused of leadership plotting. The meeting happened around the time she was banned from media appearances by Labour high command after giving interviews against leader Sir

Keir Starmer’s direction. Last month, a poll for website LabourList contained a section on the leadership qualities of senior Shadow Ministers labelled ‘Rosena Questions’.

A source close to her said: ‘Rosena can’t recall comments that may or may not have been made at Shadow Cabinet six months ago. She does not recognise the language used.’
