Missing child migrant fears

ALMOST a fifth of Albanian child migrants who were unaccompanied when they arrived in Britain by boat have gone missing, raising fears that they are being exploited or abused by gangs.

Kent County Council took in 197 Albanian child migrants between January and the end of October. But so far 39 have gone missing, according to Freedom of Information figures obtained by the BBC.

The council said it had since adopted measures that would identify children who may be at risk of going missing.

Laura Duran from ECPAT UK, which campaigns to protect children, said: ‘We’re really concerned they are at risk of exploitation or have effectively been trafficked.’
