Will polar blitz bring us a white Christmas?

BRITAIN faces its coldest Christmas for 12 years – with a 1,500-mile wide ‘polar blitz’ set to bring subzero temperatures and snow to much of the country.

Experts have warned that the UK could experience its chilliest December since 2010’s Big Freeze.

This weekend, icy easterly winds swept across Britain, making 7C highs feel more like 4C.

However, anyone hoping for a return to the recent milder weather will likely be disappointed.

Yesterday, the Met Office warned that temperatures may hit -6C at night and lows of -2C in the day come midweek – making parts of the UK colder than St Petersburg.

Ladbrokes has cut white Christmas odds to 5/2 in Edinburgh,

4/1 in Birmingham and 5/1 in London.
