We know it’s chilly, Lily – but Motty wants his coat back

THE last time we saw her on screen she was filling out the famous red swimsuit of Baywatch star Pamela Anderson.

But Lily James has channelled a very different small-screen icon with her latest outfit: legendary football commentator John Motson.

The actress was spotted wearing a full-length sheepskin coat similar to the one the BBC star famously wore on the touchlines when she met a friend for coffee last week – albeit in blue rather than Motty’s trademark brown.

The coat the actress wore for her London outing appears to be the Alina belted double-breasted shearling trench coat from high street chain Reiss, currently on sale for £925, having being reduced from £1,500 in the January sales.

The 33-year-old teamed it with designer sunglasses and a £1,160 Versace

tote bag – although as the face of the Italian fashion label, she may well have got the accessory as a freebie.

The star also fronts campaigns for Charlotte Tilbury make-up, and last week evoked the timeless glamour of Ava Gardner in a new advert for them.

Though he began commentating in 1971, Motson, now 77, became famous for his sheepskin coat while covering a Wycombe Wanderers match in horizontal sleet in 1990. In his later career, he would buy them custom-made from Savile Row, costing up to £2,000 a time. ‘I’ve always paid for my own,’ he once said. ‘People think the BBC pay for them, but they don’t.’

Meanwhile, Lily will soon be linked to a different sport – wrestling – as she stars in the forthcoming film The Iron Claw as the wife of real-life grappler Kevin Von Erich, played by Zac Efron.
