Bond star Brosnan neither shaken nor stirred as animal activists interrupt meal out

By Ronan O’Reilly

AS JAMES Bond, he saw off hitmen, rogue spies, terrorists and even a sadistic femme fatale who crushed victims with her thighs.

So being confronted with a group of eco-zealots during a night out at the famous London restaurant Scott’s in Mayfair held no fear for Pierce Brosnan.

The unflappable 69-year-old was dining at the exclusive seafood restaurant with his wife Keely Shaye Smith, 59, when members of Animal Rebellion staged a protest.

Shortly before 7pm on Friday, around 15 activists sat down at tables reserved for diners and brandished self-made menus promoting the benefits of a plant-based diet. Campaigners later released footage showing some of the group speaking to Brosnan. Security staff removed activists from the premises and police were called.

One protester, teacher Louisa Hillwood, 28, said: ‘We’re peacefully occupying tables in Scott’s to make a definitive statement that no seafood is sustainable.

‘Transitioning to a plant-based food system would support fishing communities into sustainable jobs whilst providing affordable and nutritious food, not to mention the benefits of marine rewilding.’

But a spokesman for the restaurant said: ‘All our seafood suppliers adhere to strict government guidelines, and all the fish on our menu is sustainably caught.’ It is unclear whether Brosnan was celebrating a special occasion at Scott’s, such as finishing filming his latest production, Four Letters Of Love – in which he stars with Helena Bonham Carter – earlier in the week. The Irish-born star may also have been out for St Patrick’s Day.

Scott’s, which dates back to the mid-19th century, has been based at its current location since 1967. Its celebrity clientele includes Kate Moss, Rod Stewart, Simon Cowell and film director Ridley Scott.

Notoriously, it was where former advertising tycoon Charles Saatchi was photographed in 2013 grabbing his now ex-wife Nigella Lawson by the throat during a row. He later accepted a police caution.
