Toni: Why I won’t use a sex coach in my films

IT’S a thorny issue dividing the acting community: whether to work with an intimacy coach for those awkward moments.

Now Muriel’s Wedding star Toni Collette has revealed she refuses to have someone oversee her sex scenes on set – because she has always felt comfortable with her co-stars.

The 50-yearold, right, told The Times: ‘I think it’s only been a couple of times where they’ve been brought in, and I have very much trusted and felt at ease with the people I was working with.

‘It just felt like those people who were brought in to make me feel more at ease were actually making me feel more anxious. They weren’t helping, so I asked them to leave.’

Dame Emma Thompson has hailed intimacy co-ordinators as ‘absolutely essential’, while Joely Richardson revealed that she is ‘really glad for this generation there are systems in place to protect’ actresses.

Last year, Sean Bean suggested that intimacy co-ordinators ‘spoil the spontaneity’ of sex scenes.
