Major General Charles Collins seems disappointed that the British military currently lacks the resources to engage in ‘messy, grinding land warfare’. If this prospect was featured in recruitment advertising, I doubt young people would join up. I find this phrase obscene. It suggests the feeding of human beings into bloody, certain-death.
