Fans facing Napoli chaos

By James Sharpe

FURIOUS England fans have been left stranded after the FA’s official travel partner cancelled their trip to Naples days before Gareth Southgate’s side face Italy in a repeat of the Euro 2020 final.

About 2,500 England supporters were set to attend the European Championship qualifier next Thursday in a city already on high alert after shocking scenes last week of Eintracht Frankfurt fans clashing with police.

Travel company Sportsworld sent an email to supporters on Friday night to say arrangements had been scrapped.

Sportsworld blamed the violence in Naples as a factor though it’s understood the uncertainty of Italian authorities over return flights was a deciding factor.

‘It is our policy never to cancel any trips, no matter the reason, but we unfortunately have no choice at this late stage,’ supporters were told in the email.

‘Events in Naples have certainly impacted the situation. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.’
