Competition series aiming to find country music’s next big star. If you’ve seen The X Factor you know what to expect. The show wants to broaden the diversity of what has traditionally been a very narrow genre, so artists from India, South Africa and Mexico are among US acts such as The Betsies (above) competing at Nashville in front of country stars Orville Peck, Jimmie Allen and Mickey Guyton. Meanwhile, in the present day we follow some of the survivors as they struggle to deal with the ramifications of their ordeal. Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) is covering her tracks after ‘accidentally’ killing her lover.

Taissa’s (Tawny Cypress) ex is threatening to expose her over the horrific thing she’s been keeping in the basement. Misty (Christina Ricci, left) is trying to find out what’s happened to Natalie (Juliette Lewis), who was kidnapped at the end of series one. Violent ten-part drama loosely based on the 1960s spaghetti western of the same name. Sarah’s about to marry and isn’t necessarily thrilled to see her old dad. Miley Cyrus (above) returns to Disney and takes to the stage for a debut rendering of her eighth album, Endless Summer Vacation. Her cinematic, one-of-a-kind performances are threaded together with interviews in the Los Angeles house where Frank Sinatra once lived. Available now

SHADOW & BONE NETFLIX FANTASY

Netflix’s ambitious fantasy show, based on the novels by Leigh Bardugo and with sets and costumes loosely inspired by Imperial Russia. It revolves around Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), an army map-maker who turns out to be a prophesied saviour who might be able to banish the supernatural force that has ravaged her land. She joins an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. In this, the second season, Alina faces new monsters and has to seek new allies. Available now

WACO: AMERICAN APOCALYPSE NETFLIX DOCUSERIES

Released to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the siege, a three-part documentary purports to offer the definitive account of what happened in Waco, Texas, in 1993. Then, messianic cult leader and alleged paedophile David Koresh and his followers faced off against the US government in a 51-day siege that resulted in the deaths of dozens of people. BABYLON SKY STORE/ AMAZON FILM

Few recent films have divided the critics as starkly as Babylon, a threehour epic about the early days of Hollywood.
