Lloyd Webber’s tears after his son dies at 43

ANDREW Lloyd Webber has said he is ‘bereft’ after his eldest son Nick died of gastric cancer yesterday at the age of 43.

The composer, 75, shared the tragic news on Twitter, writing: ‘I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital. His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft.’

The news came two days after the Cats composer revealed that Nick had been moved to a hospice. At the time, he said his son was ‘over the worst’ of a bout of pneumonia contracted as a result of his ‘ghastly’ cancer.

Nick, whose mother was Lord Lloyd-Webber’s first wife Sarah Hugill, was a Grammynominated composer.

He married viola player Polly Wiltshire in 2018.
