Poems that gave me strength to carry on

THERE are always poems that say what we can’t find the right words to describe ourselves. And it’s not an exaggeration to say that a book of poems – Loss, by Donna Ashworth – saved me in the week after Mum’s death. It was so helpful to read something and think: ‘That’s how I feel.’

The book, right, made me feel far less alone knowing that someone else had felt the way I did. In the poem Take The Love, Donna writes: ‘Take the love my darling, it’s yours to carry on. Grow that love forever and then I won’t be gone.’ I intend to do that for Mum.
