Piquet punished for Hamilton slur

NELSON PIQUET has been fined £780k for racist and homophobic comments towards Lewis Hamilton.

A Brazilian court ruled against the ex-champion after he was filmed on a podcast using an N-word slur against Hamilton — along with a homophobic slur.

Piquet made the remarks in November 2021 commenting on Hamilton’s British GP crash with Max Verstappen. The charges were brought by four human rights groups. Judge Pedro Matos de Arrudo said the amount was given ‘in the sense that one should not only appreciate the reparative function of civil liability but also (and perhaps mainly) the punitive function so that, as a society, we can someday be free from pernicious acts.’

Piquet has apologised.
