PARAMOUNT+, NETFLIX, APPLE TV+ & AMAZON

From Friday

MURDER MYSTERY 2 NETFLIX FILM

The first Murder Mystery movie, released in 2019, was a hit, so it’s no surprise to see Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston (right) reprise their roles as married duo Nick and Audrey. Since we last saw them, they’ve set up their own detective agency, but it’s not been that successful. However, that could change if they solve the disappearance of an old friend. From Thursday

SHEENE BT DOCUMENTARY

To mark the 20th anniversary of his death, this documentary profiles iconic British motorcycling great Barry Sheene (right, with girlfriend and model Stephanie McLean in 1978). It explores his rise to fame from humble beginnings to his glories on the track, culminating in two world championships in consecutive years. From Sunday

THE BIG DOOR PRIZE APPLE TV COMEDY

Chris O’Dowd stars as a history teacher in a small town in this offbeat, whimsical comedy series in which a mysterious, blue ‘Morpho’ machine appears in a grocery store and is supposedly able to forecast the ‘life potential’ of anybody who pays $2 to sit inside it. It’s a bit like those fortune-telling machines at old-style fairgrounds. But is that really a recipe for civic harmony? And what if the potential it predicts for you happens to be a job you’re already doing? From Wednesday

UNSTABLE NETFLIX COMEDY

A father-son comedy in which socially shy son Jackson Dragon (John Owen Lowe) begins working for his successful and admired but eccentric and narcissistic dad Ellis (Rob Lowe – real-life father of John Owen Lowe) at his bio-research facility in order to help save him from spiralling further into grief following the death of his wife. Review versions were unavailable but it does also star the excellent Sian Clifford from Fleabag so, fingers crossed. From Thursday

THE NIGHT AGENT NETFLIX THRILLER

Fans of the two Jacks, Ryan and Reacher, will enjoy The Night Agent, a ten-part thriller following low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who works nights in the basement of the White House. One day, he receives a call, setting into motion a chain of events that will uncover a conspiracy that reaches all the way to the Oval Office. Available now

MAE MARTIN: SAP NETFLIX COMEDY

A chance to see the Baftanominated comedian and co-writer of Channel 4 sitcom Feel Good’s return to stand-up. While in self-reflective mode, Martin (below) tackles big questions involving vice, virtue and pessimism, but also waxes lyrical about everything from moose and hot dogs to sloths. From Tuesday

THE POWER AMAZON PRIME DRAMA

It’d be handy to be able to give people electric shocks – possibly fatal electric shocks – by simply touching them, wouldn’t it? Based on Naomi Alderman’s novel of the same name, this nine-part drama is set in a world in which teenage girls suddenly develop the power to electrocute people. It’s from the production company that made Chernobyl and stars the always excellent Toni Collette (below) as Margot Cleary-Lopez, the mayor of Seattle who fights for a positive approach to dealing with the teenagers. However, the first episode might put some off – it’s slow and clunky and tries to tell too many stories.

From Friday

KINDRED DISNEY+ SCI-FI

Mallori Johnson stars as an aspiring writer, Dana, who is whisked back in time to the 19th Century where she must confront dark secrets from her family’s past. From Wednesday

PERNILLE VIAPLAY COMEDY

Third series of the Norwegian comedy drama. Henriette Steenstrup plays a childcare expert and single mother-of-two tackling the trials and tribulations of raising her daughters while caring for her ageing gay father. From Thursday

TETRIS APPLE TV+ THRILLER

It’s 1988 and at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, video-game salesman Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton) is trying to interest buyers in his computer version of Go, the ancient board game. No one cares. But then he discovers Tetris and is mesmerised. ‘It’s poetry, art and math all working in magical synchronicity. It’s… it’s the perfect game,’ he says. Tetris is already a hit in Russia, and Rogers is determined to bring it to the rest of the world. It’s a quest that will pit him against tycoon Robert Maxwell (Roger Allam) and the KGB. Based on a true story, this quirky comedy thriller is much more entertaining than the origin story of a computer game has any right to be. From Friday

MONUMENTAL: ELLIE GOULDING AT KEW GARDENS AMAZON FREEVEE MUSIC

In the first of a series of musical specials, the singer-songwriter (left) performs tracks from her soon to be released fifth album, Higher Than Heaven, in the picturesque surroundings of London’s famous botanical gardens. Also included are behindthe scenes clips and interviews.
