Harry ‘will not come to Diana party’

PRINCE HARRY is not expected to return to Britain next week to join his brother Prince William at a party to honour their mother.

He had been due to attend the event at Kensington Palace, and his absence will no doubt be seen as a snub to the Cambridges.

The party had originally been planned for July 1, when the brothers unveiled a statue of Diana, Princess of Wales, on what would have been her 60th birthday. Harry, 37, flew back for the unveiling without wife Meghan, who had given birth to the couple’s second child, Lilibet Diana, on June 4.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, the plans were scaled back, with just the Princes, their uncle Earl Spencer and aunts Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes present.

Harry was due to attend the rescheduled party for 100 guests, believed to include Sir Elton John, on October 19, although it is unclear if Meghan would have accompanied him.

Lilibet has yet to meet any other Royal Family members face to face. Her brother Archie, two, who was christened at Windsor in July 2019, has not been in the UK for more than a year.

Since attending the statue’s unveiling, Harry has announced he is writing his memoirs. They are due for release next year, when the Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee to mark 70 years on the throne.

An insider said: ‘The delayed party had initially been planned for September, but it was put back again as they had to check diaries.’

Last night a spokeswoman reportedly confirmed that the Sussexes would not be coming. It will be seen as a sign of the growing rift between the brothers.

Kensington Palace declined to comment.
