FRESH AIR FIASCO IN SCHOOLS

MINISTERS have been slammed for failing to ensure adequate ventilation in schools to limit the spread of Covid.

Opposition parties branded the Scottish Government’s approach to air quality in classrooms as ‘farcical and dangerous’.

In August, the First Minister announced £10million for councils to provide carbon dioxide monitoring for all schools and day-care services. Nicola Sturgeon said the devices should be used to monitor air quality, with assessments and necessary improvements identified by the October holidays.

But last night, Labour blasted the Government for not doing enough ahead of children’s return after the October break. The party’s education spokesman Michael Marra said: ‘With cases in schools very high and winter on the way, there is simply no time to waste.

‘Winter is looming, with temperatures set to plummet. That the SNP’s ventilation strategy amounts to keeping the windows open is farcical and dangerous.’
