Eco fads won’t keep Boris in power

Recently I did some work for one of the energy companies to promote the Government’s offer of free, energy-efficient boilers for pensioners on benefits.

Now that energy prices are increasing sharply, why can this scheme not be extended to cover all pensioners?

While the Government wants to see an end to new gas boilers in homes by 2035, this is OK for only the rich, who can afford ground source heat pumps, solar panels and even electric cars. But trust me, there is no one I know in my very wide circle of friends who can afford these measures.

Many of us will have to return to work at 70 just to pay our energy bills.

I feel very sorry for younger people on Universal Credit, who now have to find an extra £20 per week to cover their shortfall, but many are used to collecting free food from food banks – a concept that most pensioners can only dream of.

I wish Boris Johnson would stop listening to Greta Thunberg and start listening to those of us who are older and wiser – and may have voted him into power.

We also have long memories, which will come in handy at the next General Election.
