Stuart Russell (right), Professor of Computer Science and founder of the Center for Human-Compatible Artificial Intelligence at the University of California, Berkeley, delivers the first of four lectures exploring the impact of AI on people’s lives. He begins by reflecting on the birth of AI, its successes, failures and risks.

In Mark Steel’s In Town (Radio 4, 6.30pm) the comic performs a standup show in Blyth, Northumberland.

Tonight’s guest on The Folk Show With Mark Radcliffe (Radio 2, 9pm) is Mike Scott from The Waterboys. He reflects on a short but significant time in the band’s history: 1989-1990.
