Paddy And Christine McGuinness: Our Family And Autism

BBC1, 9pm

Autism is being found in more and more youngsters; and among those who have been diagnosed are the three children – eight-year-old twins and a five-year-old daughter – of comedian Paddy McGuinness and his wife Christine (right).

It was initially a shock for both of them, as Christine explains: ‘I saw all the signs and symptoms. I just thought that’s how they are.’ To understand the situation better, McGuinness meets up with other families affected by the condition. Ex-footballer Paul Scholes talks about the problems he faced bringing up a son with learning difficulties.

Leading expert Professor Simon BaronCohen admits: ‘I’ve been studying autism for 35 years but I still don’t feel like I fully understand it.’ The one thing that’s evident is the loving care Paddy and Christine provide for their family. ★★★★★
