What really happened in a plane crash 25 years ago is the main question in this horror-comedy drama.

At the heart of the story is a team of teenage girl soccer players (the Yellowjackets) from New Jersey, who are as intimidating as you might expect from high-school dramas such as Mean Girls. But however raucous they get while partying, that’s nothing compared to what happens when their plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness and they’re left to fend for themselves for 19 months.

As the story of the effect of those events and the new lives they have pieced together are played out, we see the survivors in the present day – played by Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci (right), among others. It’s a tale that peels back the layers of human nature to reveal the darkness that lies beneath. ★★★★☆
