Murray plays captain’s part as Killie march on

KILMARNOCK captain Euan Murray sealed their passage into the fourth round of the Scottish Cup with the decisive goal in first-half injury-time.

Central defender Murray, who was replaced at half-time by Jack Sanders because of a hamstring issue, provided an attacking threat for Dunfermline last season as he notched seven goals.

Killie boss Tommy Wright said: ‘It was a good goal from him and we want more of that. I was joking with him: “How did you score all those goals for Dunfermline last season?” Euan felt his hamstring and we didn’t want to take any risk with him as we have games on Tuesday and Friday.

‘It should have been more than 1-0, though. We missed far too many chances, although their keeper was excellent.

‘But we’re pleased with a clean sheet and to be in the hat for the next round.’
