WHAT IT SAYS: Scotland ‘agreed to join’ the United Kingdom in 1707.

FACT: Scotland did not ‘join’ a pre-existing UK but created it with England.

BOOKLET: James V inherited the English Crown in 1707.

FACT: James VI of Scotland became James I of England in 1603 with the Union of Crowns.

BOOKLET: The Scottish, English and Welsh parliaments joined together in 1707.

FACT: There was no Welsh parliament then.

BOOKLET: Unionism is ‘when all decisions about Scotland are made in London’.

FACT: Many pro-Union voters and the mainstream pro-Union parties in Scotland in fact support the Scottish parliament.
