Think fears are unfounded? What about THIS?

How The Scottish Mail on Sunday has exposed the scandal of politically ‘biased’ lessons in schools...

● Soon-to-be-scrapped quango Education Scotland published a ‘Timeline to the Scottish parliament’ in 2019, which was criticised as a ‘Braveheart version of history’ for pupils. It began, arbitrarily, with Edward I’s invasion of Scotland in 1296, repeatedly mentioned the SNP and was withdrawn after criticism from historians.

● The quango attracted ridicule in March this year for teaching material which portrayed Nessie as a symbol of the British state’s control over the Scottish people. Pupils are taught the fabled creature has a ‘complex relationship’ to Britain which ‘reveals a lot about Scotland’s position within the Union’. Guidance says pupils aged 11 to 14 can use what they learn to ‘construct a view of wider contemporary topics... such as the independence referendum’.

● Earlier this month we revealed how pupils were furnished with a link to the official SNP website as part of their homework. Pupils were handed the link to a page which included a list of ‘100 achievements of the SNP in government’ and an invitation to join the party. Teenagers at the Aberdeen school concerned were also asked to compile a list of Nicola Sturgeon’s ‘important policies’ for their Modern Studies class and to create a fact-file on the First Minister as part of a 13-lesson series on independence.
