Silent snipers stalking the enemy on 55mph e-bikes
From Michael Powell
UKRAINIAN snipers are silently stalking their Russian prey on 55mph electric motorbikes.
One of the bikes, barely making a sound and ridden by a soldier with a rifle slung over his shoulder, was recently caught on camera in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.
Mamuka Mamulashvili, commander of the Georgian Legion, a Ukrainian army unit comprising mainly volunteer soldiers from the former Soviet republic, said his snipers used the e-bikes to stage lightning attacks lasting between five and ten minutes, quickly moving on before Russian artillery could pinpoint them.
‘We have to go and leave fast so we need electro bikes,’ he told The War Zone website.
The ELEEK Atom Military bikes are produced by Elektrek, a company in western Ukraine, and cost about £3,500. Weighing just 70kg, they can travel up to 93 miles on one five-hour charge and are ideal for rugged off-road terrain.
