Dirty Harry (1971)

Clint Eastwood (above) has rarely been better than in Don Siegel’s taut thriller, in which he plays iconic San Francisco police detective Harry Callahan for the first time. But he’s matched all the way by Andy Robinson as Scorpio, the insane, ruthless killer holding the city to ransom. Lalo Schifrin’s score is pretty impressive too. ★★★★★
