Why boo Wills when he does so much for UK?

I don’t understand why Liverpool fans booed Prince William at the FA Cup Final, as reported on the front page of last week’s Mail on Sunday. The Royal Family brings in millions of pounds to the UK each year through tourism alone. It’s funny that these fans would boo a person who does good for their country but cheer a footballer who is earning hundreds of thousands of pounds a week, giving back very little to the wider communities.

I was astonished to read about how Liverpool football ‘fans’ – a small minority of them, I hasten to add – booed William. Don’t these fans realise they are not only letting down Liverpool FC, but they are letting down the City of Liverpool?

I wonder whether the same fans who booed our National Anthem at the FA Cup Final will decide to work the bank holiday for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in a form of protest. I very much doubt it.

Debbie Peterson, Kent

The Liverpool fans who were booing Prince William wouldn’t have been doing it for no reason. Maybe it’s about time we listened to the general public about the Monarchy and vote in who we want as our head of state instead of it being passed down through the Windsor family.

J. Edwards, London

Were the actions of a few mindless idiots worthy of a front page? There will always be antiRoyalist and anti-Establishment elements in any crowd, but how these issues are reported should be given great and neutral consideration. This article has condemned our city for the actions of a pathetic minority.

David Keen, Liverpool

Football fans have never been known for sportsmanship and civilised behaviour, so I guess we shouldn’t be that surprised that they would jeer.

Lesley Evans, Nailsea, Somerset

I am very proud of my city and of the hard work that has been done to rebuild our city’s reputation after many years of disastrous setbacks. Personally, I do not condone disrespect to any individual or Establishment regardless of whom they represent. You only have to look at the conditions that many people in Liverpool worked in after the war to see why they grew to be anti-Establishment.

George Quirk, Liverpool
