YATES SECURES ANOTHER STAGE WIN AS CARAPAZ CLAIMS LEAD

SIMON YATES took victory in stage 14 of the Giro d’Italia as Richard Carapaz claimed the overall lead from Juan Pedro Lopez.

Carapaz had initially broken away with 28km of the stage to go only for Yates, Jai Hindley and Nibali Vencenzo to reel him in.

But Yates powered clear of the group for his second stage win this year to seal victory by 15 seconds with Australian Hindley sneaking second ahead of Carapaz.

The result means Carapaz takes the pink jersey off Lopez, who had been leading the race since stage five, after he finished over four minutes later.

Carapaz takes a seven-second lead into stage 15 over Hindley, with leading young rider Joao Almeida in third.
