Mbappe signs new PSG deal to dismay of La Liga chiefs

KYLIAN MBAPPE has signed a three-year contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old France forward’s deal will keep him at the Parc des Princes until June 2025.

He said: ‘I’m convinced that here I can continue to grow at a club that provides everything necessary to perform at the highest level.’

The news did not go down well in Spain, where La Liga chiefs signalled their intention to file a complaint against PSG on the grounds of financial sustainability.

A La Liga statement said: ‘This behaviour demonstrates once more that state-owned clubs do not respect the rules of a sector as important as football.

‘These rules are key to protect and sustain hundreds of thousands of jobs.

‘This kind of behaviour led by Al-Khelaifi, president of PSG, and member of the UEFA Executive Committee and president of ECA, endangers European football on the same level as the European Super League.’

MANCHESTER City pair Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden have won the Premier League player and young player of the season awards respectively.

De Bruyne has come out on top in the fans’ vote for a second time after winning the award in 2019-20, while Foden has been voted best young player for the second successive year.

ASTON VILLA are closing in on a deal for Hearts’ teenage midfielder Ewan Simpson. The 15-yearold Scotland youth international has attracted plenty of interest and the Gorgie club rejected a proposal from Villa last month. However, the Premier League side have returned and hope to agree a deal this week.
