Ferguson keeps his composure to extend lead ahead of final round

GOLF: Ewen Ferguson takes a threeshot lead into today’s final round of the ISPS HANDA World Invitational in County Antrim after a third-round 68.

The Scot, who was just one stroke ahead of his nearest rival before the start of play yesterday, carded four birdies and two bogeys during his round to leave him clear of America’s John Catlin.

Ferguson said: ‘It becomes a bit tough and you just need to try and grind it. I kind of accepted that and just tried to hit some good shots. My swing still feels good and I’ve got a nice rhythm and all that stuff.’

Ferguson is on course for his second DP tour win of the season after claiming the Qatar Masters back in March, having been sat top of the leaderboard since day one.

He added: ‘I’ve not really thought about it to be honest. I’ve just been kind of enjoying it for the last couple of days.’

Fellow Scot Connor Syme is part of a quartet four shots off the lead, alongside Borja Virto, Jack Senior and Marcus Helligkilde.

In the women’s event, America’s Amanda Doherty leads the way from Georgia Hall and Chien Peiyun.
