Rovers relief as Connolly helps Fifers get off mark

RAITH ROVERS picked up their first points of the Championship season with a 2-1 victory over Morton at Stark’s Park.

Ian Murray’s men took the lead in the 51st minute when Liam Dick ghosted in at the far post to head home Aidan Connolly’s cross. Rovers doubled their advantage in the 66th minute after Connolly shot into the net from the edge of the area.

Dougie Imrie’s visitors halved the deficit with 10 minutes remaining when Cameron Blues headed home, but Raith held on for a key win that lifted them above bottom-club Arbroath.

Elsewhere, Ayr United drew 2-2 with Hamilton at Somerset Park. Dipo Akinyemi gave the hosts a third-minute lead but were pegged back 11 minutes later by Andy Winter’s long-range strike.

Akinyemi missed from the penalty spot just before half-time and Lee Bullen’s side were punished.

Daniel O’Reilly put Accies ahead in the 73rd minute. However, Andy Murdoch’s strike five minutes from time snatched a point for Ayr, who sit third in the table after taking five points from their first nine available.

Accies recorded their third straight draw of the season and John Rankin’s side sit seventh in the league.
