Jenz knows the score from now on

By Graeme Croser

IT was only in the aftermath that Moritz Jenz realised how close he had come to ending his dream debut with a red card.

Elated after scoring Celtic’s second, matchwinning goal at Ross County last weekend, the German defender ploughed straight into the visiting supporters behind the goal.

It was an instinctive moment and one in which the defender forgot that he had already been yellow carded for a foul earlier in the half.

Referee Don Robertson’s discretionary decision not to issue a second booking means Jenz is available for today’s noon kick-off at Kilmarnock.

Should he again find the net, expect a different reaction.

‘I have been warned to take care!’ he says. ‘Last week was pure joy and emotion when I ran into the crowd.

‘If I’m honest I didn’t think about the consequences. It was my first game and I had the adrenaline to play in front of 4,000 away supporters. When the goal happened in front of them I think anyone would have the same feeling of wanting to jump straight into the crowd to celebrate with our fans — it’s just normal instinct.

‘This time, if I score the goal, I will be more settled.’

Jenz enjoyed his first outing in partnership with Cameron CarterVickers last weekend and admits he would also like to emulate the £6million signing in committing his future to Celtic permanently.

Carter-Vickers spent last season on loan from Tottenham before making the switch permanent and a similar option is in place with Jenz’s parent club Lorient.

He added: ‘My goals for the season are to help Celtic achieve as many targets as possible. Personally, I want to play consistently on a high level and improve as a player.

‘I also want to be a part of Celtic for the longterm. I know Cameron did something similar last season with the loan and it would be nice to do the same.’
