OUR JOURNALISTS SCOOP TOP PRIZES AT PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS

TWO Mail on Sunday journalists have scooped top prizes at prestigious awards ceremonies.

Scottish Mail on Sunday sports writer Gary Keown won the Sports Columnist of the Year award at the Scottish Press Awards for the second year in a row.

And the Mail on Sunday’s Health Editor won the top gong at the ‘Oscars’ of medical journalism.

Barney Calman won Health Editor of the Year from the Medical Journalists’ Association, honouring ‘outstanding examples of health and medical journalism’. He led an MoS campaign to get GPs to see patients face-to-face after Covid restrictions were lifted.

Judges said: ‘The MoS health section launched a punchy campaign on the problem, totally in tune with readers’ concerns.’ They added our coverage ‘showed how to run a popular campaign – with commitment and gusto’.

Rosie Taylor also won Freelancer of the Year for her investigation for MoS into the banned drug co-proxamol.

Our GP columnist Dr Ellie Cannon was ‘highly commended’ for Mental Health Story of the Year for writing about her experience of taking antidepressants.
