UKRAINIANS BOUNCE BACK WITH A FIVE-STAR VICTORY IN ARMENIA

UKRAINE kept their Nations League hopes alive with a 5-0 thrashing of Armenia yesterday.

Oleksandr Petrakov’s side moved on to 10 points, meaning their fate is undecided ahead of their final game against Scotland on Tuesday evening.

Oleksandr Tymchyk put

Ukraine ahead after just 22 minutes but they were unable to consolidate their lead in the first half.

However, in the second period, the floodgates opened.

Oleksandr Zubkov doubled their advantage with a tidy finish on 57 minutes before Artem Dovbyk, who replaced the ineffective Roman Yaremchuk in the 66th minute, put the game beyond doubt midway through the half. The Ukranians weren’t done there, however.

Midfielder Danylo Ignatenko found the net nine minutes from time before Dovbyk made it 5-0 three minutes later.

Armenia now go into their final game against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday with their fate in their own hands.

Beat Stephen Kenny’s Irish, and they will remain in League B. Defeat, however, would see them drop down a tier in the competition.
