Thistle ownership no laughing matter
TAKING supporters for granted is a dangerous game for a club director. Proof of that should, hopefully, be evident when the Rangers AGM plays out on Tuesday.
Openly laughing at them when they are trying to make their voices heard, though, takes things on to another level.
That’s why Partick Thistle board member Alan Rough (right) would be advised to step a little more carefully when addressing the ever-more-thorny issue of fan ownership at Firhill.
For those unaware, there is real bad feeling at the Jags right now over the machinations behind the PTFC Trust being chosen over the Jags Foundation to take on late benefactor Colin Weir’s shareholding. It led to demonstrations around the cup win over Kelty
Hearts with banners branding the Trust as ‘patsies’ for the existing club board. Those are only likely to intensify after Rough, appearing on a webbased talkshow, wrote off the numbers involved at ‘about 30’ and chortled: ‘When it got dark, nobody could see them — so that was a wee bonus.’
That kind of stuff is a red rag to a bull. When punters get the bit between their teeth, get organised and feel galvanised by opposition and derision from the boardroom, they will win. Eventually.
