FAMILIES are using technology to earn an extra £1,000 a year to help boost their income.
Research by mobile network provider EE has revealed the average household generates around £910 a year through apps and technology.
Half of UK households said they are using innovative ways to beat rising living costs, with the most popular being reviewing TV shows and doing market research, as carried out by more than 10 per cent of respondents – while 4 per cent are ‘renting’ out their dogs to lonely people.
Other ways people are earning cash through using their phones include selling sunset photos, getting paid to reach milestones in online games and renting out driveways and spare rooms.
The research found people in Glasgow are best at ‘techonomics’, followed by those in Birmingham and London.
Depop, an app for selling second-hand clothes, recently revealed that 18 to 35-year-olds are bringing in an average of £350 a year.
Sharon Meadows, director of broadband and mobile at EE, said: ‘Getting through tough times starts at home, by squeezing the value out of every connection in the family.’
