DUNC IS DENIED A DREAM START

ALAN DOUGLAS

AN injury-time double denied Duncan Ferguson a winning start as Forest Green manager as Shrewsbury came from behind to triumph 2-1.

Having taken an 18th-minute lead through Jordon Garrick, his second goal in four league appearances for the club, things were looking good for the former Everton, Rangers and Scotland striker (below).

Rovers could have been out of sight in the first half but Shrewsbury goalkeeper Marko Marosi got down well to deny Ollie Casey before Amadou Bakayoko fired into the side netting.

But the League One strugglers remain four points from safety after injury-time strikes from Rekeil Pyke and former Motherwell forward Ryan Bowman turned the game on its head and gave the hosts a last-gasp victory.

Speaking to club media afterwards, Ferguson said: ‘It hurt really badly. I thought the team were excellent today.

‘It was a good performance, good organisation, good structure to the team, but it was a disappointing end to an encouraging 94 minutes.’
