WILL ‘BLADE RUNNERS’ ACT HERE?

A SECRETIVE activist army is vandalising and stealing ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) cameras amid growing protests over expansion of the unpopular scheme in London.

Dubbed the ‘Blade Runners’, the covert group has been attacking devices that catch out drivers using older vehicles across the city.

The scheme will charge people £12.50 a day to drive in Greater London from August 29 if their cars don’t meet specified environmental standards. The founder of another group campaigning against expanded ULEZs last week warned ‘it’s going to get messy’.

Speaking on TV, UK Unites founder Phil Elliott said: ‘People just can’t afford new cars or the charges.’

A spokesman for mayor Sadiq Khan said: ‘People are, of course, entitled to show their opposition to policies peacefully and lawfully. Causing criminal damage is never acceptable.’
