Created by Rian Johnson, writer of the Knives Out movies, Poker Face is a ten-episode mystery-of-the-week series. Natasha Lyonne plays Charlie Cale, above, who has the gift of always being able to tell when someone is lying, an ability that has seen her barred from every casino where she’s ever played poker, so now she’s working as a waitress. When she falls foul of some very bad men she has to go on the run but ends up solving crimes in every town into which she drifts. This is a hugely entertaining, addictive comedy drama, filled with references to classic 1970s and ’80s detective shows, and which owes a lot to Lyonne’s quirky, charismatic performance and an impressive list of guest stars including Adrien Brody, Ellen Barkin and Chloë Sevigny.
