Lockyer celebrates in hospital after collapse
By Craig Hope AT WEMBLEY
LUTON captain Tom Lockyer celebrated promotion to the Premier League from his hospital bed after collapsing early in the first half at Wembley.
Lockyer was carried off on a stretcher with an oxygen mask after crashing to the ground with no other player near him.
Medics from both teams rushed to help the stricken player who was then taken to hospital. But after Luton beat Coventry to clinch promotion,
Lockyer was able to celebrate.
His father Steve shared a photo from the hospital of the player and family cheering wildly at the moment Luton won. ‘Tom’s dad here,’ Steve tweeted. ‘Tom is OK. Very happy but so sad he can’t be there with his team-mates.’
Players held up Lockyer’s shirt during their celebrations. Boss Rob Edwards said: ‘I feel really good but the only thing I’m thinking about is Tom.’
Lockyer, 28, was Luton’s player of the season and scored the winning goal in their semifinal victory over Sunderland.
