RACING TO GLORY, EVENTUALLY
I’d always wanted to do the London Marathon and finally did it in 2019, although I nearly pulled out because of a leg injury. I was on course to finish in 4 hours 20 minutes when I turned my heel and pain shot through my knee so I had to sit having physio for half an hour. An official told me not to continue but I’m super competitive, so I said, ‘Are you joking?’ and finished in about 5 hours 30 minutes, so I’m very proud of this medal. I compare it to childbirth. You know the outcome and when someone asks you straight after if you’d do it again you say, ‘No way,’ then a few weeks later you go, ‘Actually I want to do it again.’
