13 held as protesters march with banners of hatred
By Isaac Crowson
POLICE made 13 arrests at a pro-Palestine demonstration in central London yesterday, which was again marred by hate-fuelled rants and anti-Semitic placards.
Thousands took to the streets to protest against Israel’s war on terror in Gaza, but numbers were down on previous weekends.
Demonstrators once again turned up holding vile signs – despite the police vowing to crack down on anti-Semitism. One made a reference to the ‘Final Solution’ – a term used by the Nazis. A second featured pictures of Gaza with the caption: ‘Israel’s Gaza Holocaust’.
Last night police appealed for information over allegations a woman carried a placard showing pictures of Holocaust victims.
Photographer Stuart Mitchell said: ‘I could not believe what I could see and hear. It was cowardly policing.’
