Gangster killed in court
ONE of India’s most notorious gangsters was shot dead inside a courtroom by two men who were posing as lawyers yesterday.
They opened fire at Jitender Maan Gogi in a Delhi court where a case was being heard against him.
Police at the scene returned fire, killing the two men. They suspect a rival gang planned the attack.
Gogi was on Delhi police’s mostwanted list and he was also an accused in dozens of cases – including murder, kidnapping and fraud – in other states. A senior politician said it showed a serious lapse of security planning in Delhi’s courts.
Gogi was arrested in the city in March last year on charges of murder and extortion.
Officials said he was a target of many gangs due to his swift rise in the crime world, which he embarked upon while studying at Delhi University as a teenager.
He has been a prime suspect in many high-profile killings, including that of a popular singer.
