Gwynnie’s gift to Taylor Swift that left her blushing in the witness box

From Caroline Graham IN LOS ANGELES

SHE has never shied away from talking about sex.

But a ‘bizarre’ courtroom exchange between Gwyneth Paltrow and lawyers last week left even the Hollywood A-lister a little flustered and flushed.

Now the Mail on Sunday can reveal the full saucy story behind the witness-box drama.

Oscar-winner Ms Paltrow is being sued for $300,000 by retired optometrist Terry Sanderson, 76, who claims the 50-year-old star left him severely injured after allegedly crashing into him on a Utah ski slope in 2016.

Miss Paltrow denies causing the accident and, during dramatic testimony on Friday, told how she at first thought she might be being ‘sexually assaulted’ when Mr Sanderson crashed into her from behind and started making ‘grunting noises’. She is counter-suing for $1 and legal fees, but during a particularly awkward exchange on Friday, Sanderson’s lawyer Kristin VanOrman grilled Miss Paltrow about her friendship with Taylor Swift.

The singer was famously awarded $1 in 2017 after winning a groping trial against former DJ David Mueller. Lawyer Ms VanOrman asked if the ‘$1 damages idea came from Taylor Swift’, adding: ‘Are you good friends with Taylor Swift?’

Miss Paltrow replied: ‘I would not say we are good friends, we are friendly. I’ve taken my kids to one of her concerts before but we don’t talk very often.’

Ms VanOrman then asked: ‘You’ve never given Ms Swift personal, intimate gifts for Christmas?’

Miss Paltrow smiled and blushed but did not answer after her lawyer objected to the question.

Now The Mail on Sunday can reveal the ‘intimate’ gift appears to refer to a sex toy Miss Paltrow gave Miss Swift in a 2021 advert for her $1billion lifestyle brand Goop. In the commercial, she stands in front of a gift bag with Miss Swift’s name on it and appears to choose between a red scarf and a sex toy, before putting the toy in the bag.

One courtroom witness said: ‘It was one of the more bizarre exchanges during Gwyneth’s testimony. She had been looking tense until that line of questioning but then she relaxed. She was blushing at one point but she also cracked a smile.’

Mr Sanderson claims the accident left him with a brain injury, broken ribs and psychological problems, including anxiety and depression.

Miss Paltrow contends he is trying to ‘exploit her celebrity and wealth’. The actress’s husband Brad Falchuk and children Apple, 18, and Moses, 16, who were on the slope at the time of the accident, are expected to testify tomorrow.

The case continues.
