Hundreds join protest over car crackdown
HUNDREDS of people protested on the streets of Central London yesterday against plans for the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) to expand to cover all 32 boroughs.
Currently vehicles with higher emissions – often older models – are charged for being driven within the North and South Circular roads. But London Mayor Sadiq Khan wants to include outer London in the scheme.
Placards and banners held aloft read: ‘Ulez creates poverty.’ One protester, Jane Green, said: ‘Those who have the older cars are the ones who can’t afford the charge or to buy a new car.’
